Delhi's Air Quality Improves to 'Moderate' After Heavy Rainfall

Delhi’s air quality saw significant improvement following heavy rainfall, shifting to a ‘moderate’ level with an AQI of 179 as of 7 AM on Saturday. The persistent rain not only brought relief from pollution but also led to the lifting of GRAP-3 pollution curbs on Friday as conditions improved. Prior to the rains, the air quality had deteriorated from ‘severe’ to ‘poor’ before steadily getting better. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded a temperature of 13.8°C at 5:30 AM on Saturday, with a low of 12°C expected later in the day.
This improvement coincided with December marking its highest rainfall in 15 years, with 42.8 mm of rain recorded throughout the month, including 9.1 mm in the past 24 hours. The rain also caused a significant 9.5°C drop in daytime temperatures, making it the coldest December in the past five years.
